Biography

Born in Arrasate-Mondragón in the Basque Country in 1961, Beatriz began playing music in the youth orchestra Arrasate Musikal, founded and directed by her father Juan. She furthered his violin training with Julia Frape (London, 1984 and 1985). At the Madrid Royal Conservatory of Music, she earned college degrees in Composition (with an honorable mention), Orchestral Conducting, Choir Conducting, Violin and in Solfege, Music Theory, Transposition, and Piano Accompaniment. His teachers include Pedro León, Francisco Calés, Román Alís, Antón García Abril, Francisco García Nieto and Enrique García Asensio.
As part of her studies, she participated in conducting workshops with Ros Marbá, Celebidache, Rilling, Comisiona and Machat, and in composition workshops with Luis De Pablo, Guinjoan, Nascimbene, Delerue, Gentilucci, Villa-Rojo and Barce. Beatriz has been a teacher of varied disciplines in the music field. She worked as a music consultant for the Community of Madrid before becoming the head of the music division at the Teatros del Canal in 2010, where she is currently the Coordinator of the Centro Coreográfico Canal. She was Vice President of the Asociación Mujeres en la Música (Association of Women in Music) (2010-14) and Music Advisor for the public institution Acción Cultural Española(2014-15). She is a member of Musikagileak (Association of Basque-Navarrese composers) and of the Association of Madrid Composers (AMCC), of which she is a member of the current board.
She has composed works commissioned by different institutions and music festivals such as the Instituto Nacional de las Artes Escénicas y de la Música (INAEM), the Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical (CNDM), the Comunidad de Madrid, the Festival Cristóbal Halffter, the Junta de Andalucía for the Festival de Música española de Cádiz, as well as for renowned orchestras, musical groups and soloists.
Her works have been performed in different halls and music festivals in Europe, America and Asia such as the Auditorio Nacional de Música (Madrid), Teatro Monumental (Madrid), Teatros del Canal de Madrid, Carnegie Hall (New York City-USA), Palacio de Bellas Artes (Mexico City), Rudolfinum Hall in Prague (Czech Republic), Chamber Hall of the Seoul Art Center (Seoul-Korea), Cabrillo Santa Cruz Contemporary Music Festival (California-USA), Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía (Madrid), Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando (Madrid), Palacio de Festivales de Cantabria (Santander) among others. In 2021, she was commissioned by the Santander International Music Festival for a symphony orchestra work. Elim Chan conducted the world premiere in August 2022 by the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias. In the same year, she was selected by the SGAE Foundation (Sociedad General de Autores y Editores) and the Spanish Association of Symphony Orchestras (AEOS), to compose a symphony orchestra work for the Navarra Symphony Orchestra, whose world premiere took place in September 2022 conducted by Perry So
She has been invited as a speaker at numerous symposiums, and workshops related to the role of women in music.
